The Central Asia region is highly prone to a wide range of natural disasters. It is one of the most seismically active areas of the world, which, together with floods, landslides, extreme cold and drought regularly cause human losses, economic and environmental damages. The threat of a large-scale event affecting several Central Asian countries at once has led to renewed interest in regional cooperation on disaster management.
Given the need to reinforce natural disaster response and preparedness activities in the Central Asian region, OCHA established a regional presence through the deployment of a Regional Disaster Response Advisor (RDRA) for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan based in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
What we do:
- We coordinate the response to emergencies;
- We mobilize financial resources;
- We mobilize knowledge and information;
